Weather Summary

6:00 pm

30th August 2011

The low level reflection of a developing deep layered trough over the central Atlantic will move across the island chain around Wednesday, and this will induce a northward pull of I.T.C.Z moisture across the islands. Some additional scattered showers can be expected. Beyond this a drier pattern will emerge, as the now tropical storm katia draws closer to the region and absorbs most of the available moisture.

AT 5:00 PM ...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM KATIA WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 12.7 NORTH...LONGITUDE 35.4 WEST. KATIA IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 20 MPH...32 KM/H...AND THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE OVER THE NEXT 48 HOURS. SATELLITE IMAGES INDICATE THAT THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE INCREASED TO NEAR 60 MPH...95 KM/H...WITH HIGHER GUSTS. CONTINUED STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST...AND KATIA COULD BECOME A HURRICANE TOMORROW.

ON ITS PRESENT AND EXPECTED TRACK KATIA POSES NO IMMEDIATE THREAT TO ST.VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES.

THIS SYSTEM IS ABOUT 1700 MILES TO OUR EAST, WE WOULD CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF TROPICAL STORM KATIA.
